| Abstract Passiflora species are well known for their common use in popular medicine for the treatment of several diseases, such as insomnia, anxiety, and hysteria, in addition to their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic and antibacterial potential. However, few data about the chemical composition and the medicinal potential of in vitro derived materials are available. | BackgroundCrotalus durissus terrificus venom (CdtV) is one of the most studied snake venoms in Brazil. Despite presenting several well known proteins, its L-amino acid oxidase (LAAO) has not been studied previously. This study aimed to isolate, characterize and evaluate the enzyme stability of bordonein-L, an LAAO from CdtV.Methods The enzyme was isolated through cation exchange, gel filtration and affinity chromatography, followed by a reversed-phase fast protein liquid chromatography to confirm its purity. | Abstract The present study aims to evaluate the influence of extraction methods on the quality of bioactive compounds and antioxidant capacity in Pterodon emarginatusVogel (sucupira) oils. The oils were extracted from the sucupira seeds by Soxhlet and by the extraction system of Bligh & Dyer. The oils were analyzed as to fatty acid profile, tocopherols, phytosterols, carotenoids, total phenolics, and total antioxidant capacity. The extraction by Soxhlet showed better yield of total lipids and was more efficient to extract tocopherols, phytosterols, and carotenoids, besides presenting better antioxidant activity by DPPH•. | Gel permeation chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography were employed for separation and chemical characterization of products isolated from chrome shavings. After enzymatic hydrolysis, the products isolated were peptides of higher molecular weight. Peptides of lower molecular weight and free aminoacids were the main products using sulfuric acid in chrome shavings solubilization. Glycine (17%) , glutamic acid (10.6%) , alanine (9.2%) , and arginine (8.2%) were the principal amino acids found. Phenylalanine(1.8%) was the main aromatic amino acid , while tryptophane was completely absent. |

| Iranian scorpions belong mainly to the Buthidae and Scorpionidae families, distributed into 16 genera and 25 species. In Iran, similar to other parts of the world, there are a few known species of scorpions responsible for severe envenoming; amongst which Mesobuthus eupeus is the most common. Its venom contains several toxin fractions that may affect the ion channel. In the present study purification, labeling and biological evaluation of M. eupeus venom are described. For separation, soluble venom was loaded on a chromatography column packed with Sephadex G-50 gel. Subsequently, the fractions were collected according to UV absorption at a wavelength of 280 nm. | Dado que el picudo del chile es el principal problema fitosanitario en el cultivo de Capsicum spp., y las medidas de control no han logrado mitigar de forma eficiente las poblaciones de este insecto, se estudiaron los siguientes objetivos con el fin de conocer las interacciones planta insecto. Primero se valido un método de recolecta de volátiles, el cual demostró ser eficiente bajo las diferentes variables analíticas estudiadas, con % de recobro de 90-100 y DER menores a 10%. En segundo lugar se evaluó el potencial atrayente de estructuras de la planta como flores, yemas, frutos en desarrollo y frutos comerciales, encontrando que machos prefieren en primer lugar flores y después yemas, y las hembras en su primera opción eligieron yemas y después flores.... |

| A reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography method has been developed and validated for accelerated stability study and determination of pharmacokinetic parameters of venlafaxine HCl. The chromatographic separation was carried out using ODS analytical column (250 × 4.6 mm i.d., 5 µm particle size). The mobile phase included acetonitrile, methanol and potassium dihydrogen phosphate buffer (30:30:40; pH 6.1) at a flow rate 1.5 mL min−1. UV-Visible detector was used at wavelength of 227 nm to monitor elutions. Retention time observed was 2.745 min. The method was validated for linearity, accuracy, precision, sensitivity and robustness. | ABSTRACT: Tebuthiuron is one of the most widely used herbicides in the sugarcane culture and its characteristic is the long persistence in soil. When used without knowing its interactions with soil attributes, it can reduce the sustainability of cropping systems and contaminate surface and groundwaters. In this research, by using a high-performance liquid chromatography, the effects of adding organic matter in a Red-Yellow Latosol were evaluated, as for the sorption and desorption of tebuthiuron. It was concluded that there is a direct relation between the sorption of tebuthiuron and the organic matter content in Red-Yellow Latosols and there is an inverse relation for desorption. The hysteresis index was lower in samples with high organic matter content. |
